"an exciting, enjoyable and informative show for Key
Stage 1 and 2 Science pupils ...You are one of the few presenters catering for
KS1 in a meaningful way" Carolyn
O'Donnell, Manager,
Setpoint Bedfordshire &
Ian Saville's show is a story about Eric the
gardener, "Push" the cat and "Pull" the apple.
Ian uses puppets, ventriloquism and magic to introduce the topic
of forces and motion to children in key stages 1 and 2 of the
National Curriculum. By helping to solve Eric's problems,
children are led into an understanding of the following areas of
the National Curriculum in science:
| · Systematic enquiry / focused exploration · The nature of scientific ideas (and the image of the scientist) · Planning experimental work · Obtaining and considering evidence · Science in everyday life |
· Pushes and pulls as examples of forces · Describing movement · Speeding up, slowing down and changing direction · Forces changing the shape of objects |
By the end of this 45-minute show children will have considered
questions about the nature of pushes, pulls and forces, and will
have thought about what a scientist really is. They will have
begun to see themselves as scientists, devising fair tests and
exploring ideas about the world.
As well as being a performer, Ian Saville is a
qualified teacher who has worked with all ages from primary
school to University. His one-man shows have won him a Time Out
Theatre Award, and he has performed at theatres throughout
Britain.
Push the Cat and Pull the Apple is
available for booking by schools, for audiences of up to 100
children at a price of £250 (plus travel expenses for schools
outside London). This show is zero-rated for VAT.
Follow up material for teachers
will be provided at no extra cost.
