Anybody living or working in or around Brent can join and participate in our activities in opposing the
war and the occupation of Iraq. Our planning meetings are open to all, and all are welcome to join us
on our street stalls and at demonstrations. For details sign up to our
newsletter above.
Brent Stop the War was set up after the atrocity of September 11th 2001, and the
British and US governments' warmongering reaction. All along we have campaigned
for peace rather than aggression.
Activities so far have included:
Meetings to discuss issues and plan activities.
Public meetings on: opposing war; Palestine/Israel; Iraq
Street stalls in
Kilburn, Willesden, Harlesden, Kingsbury, Cricklewood and Wembley
Petitioning and advertising activities.
Fundraising
barbecue and Benefit evening
Film showings
Lobbying MPs
Taking
part in local and national demonstrations
The war on Iraq was illegal,
immoral and irrational; it has made us hated across the world; it
threatened the stability of the Middle East and replaced international law
with US dictat. They say we should forget about protesting now that the
war has been won.
We say it is all the more important to keep up the pressure:
To
stop the killing and starvation - the humanitarian crisis in Iraq is
continuing and worsening in many areas.
To
stop use of weapons of mass destruction - cluster bombs that
endanger civilians, especially children, and depleted uranium, which
causes cancer and birth defects still present deadly danger to the
people of Iraq.
For
spending on aid - the government has committed just £150 million
for aid and £3 billion for war.
The Iraqi people, already punished by Saddam and 11
years of sanctions, have now been punished further with war. They
did not deserve
Saddam, but they do not deserve bombs either.
To
prevent more wars. Iraq is only the first of Bush's many planned
wars against any country he defines as 'Evil'. Syria, Iran, Somalia, North
Korea - who knows where next?
